Welcome to The Mill at Ward Cove

Welcome to The Mill at Ward Cove and congratulations on being hired as one of our valuable team members.  To prepare you for this exciting experience, below is some helpful information to get you started on your way to a successful summer in Ketchikan.  If you have any questions, please contact your hiring supervisor.

How to get to Ketchikan:

The Ketchikan International Airport offers commercial airline service through Alaska Airlines, year-round, and through Delta Airlines in the summer season.

The Alaska Marine Highway System, our ferry system, connects Ketchikan with Bellingham if you wish to bring a vehicle.

Remember, we reimburse up to $300 of travel, with receipts, paid at the end of probationary period.

 Housing Information:

Spend your summer on the historic MV Malaspina, the first ferry commissioned by the State of Alaska. Entertain guests during the day and explore Ketchikan, Alaska by bike or kayak on your days off. Have fun and meet new friends in this unique living environment.

We charge a flat daily rate of $20 per person per day for a single room or $16 per person per day for a double room. The cost is deducted from your paycheck if you choose to stay in employee housing. The rate covers rent, utilities, cleaning of public areas, weekly laundering of towels and sheets (provided), and Wi-Fi in public spaces. Also includes use of bikes and kayaks.

Dormitory-like housing with a cafeteria; most rooms are shared with at least one other employee and include twin beds and a private bathroom.

Coin operated laundry is available on premises.

Uniform Information:

The Mill at Ward Cove provides upper body uniform pieces – shirts and jackets – but it is your responsibility to provide your own bottom pieces and shoes.  Please clarify with your supervisor on the requirements for bottom pieces, such as slacks, jeans, etc. as each department may have different requirements.  We recommend water-proof shoes or boots even if you work inside.

Please plan to bring these items with you or order them well in advance so you can be in uniform on your first day of work.

On a personal note, the weather in Ketchikan is typical of Southeast Alaska, where it can rain one day and be warm the next.  As the season moves into fall weather, warm hats, gloves and scarves are often wished for and smart to pack.

Also, don’t forget your sunglasses!
